Memphis BBQ omelet from Cockadoos:
I was skeptical about this dish as it seemed like a "we're a Memphis restaurant, and thus should have a BBQ dish". Quite frankly it is fantastic. The eggs are the best I've had in the city: light, fluffy and perfectly cooked. The pulled pork is excellent and the amount of BBQ sauce is just right: not slathered on/masking the taste of other ingredients.
Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken:
While Memphis is continually pushed as a barbecue hub, the chicken at Gus's is truly our city dish without parallel. A must have if coming through Memphis.
Mac & Cheese from Lunchbox Eats:
A little bit spicy with a nice fresh baked cheesy crust on top, this mac and cheese is very good.
Lunchbox Eats:
Only open three weeks, this joint has made a name for itself instantly. The food is fantastic and the service amazing. The decor is great and inviting. EAT HERE FOR LUNCH!
DejaVu:
Amazing vegetarian cuisine. Fellow meat-eaters don't worry, though: DejaVu's chicken, andouille and crawfish are out of this world!
Grilled Cabbage from DejaVu:
This dish is really delicious! I wasn't expecting much, but the smoky grilled flavor is unbelievable.
Poplar Perk'n:
This place is cozy and friendly and lovely. You'll almost never be left without a good conversation here if that's what you've come looking for. Plus, the coffee's great.
Fresh Hummus from Republic Coffee:
Very tasty, and made fresh to order. I'm a big hot sauce in my hummus person, and they'd be happy to bring a small bottle alongside. Plus, the crostinis they give you to eat your hummus with? Bottomless.
